STMicroelectronics - X-NUCLEO-53L9A1- Unboxing | DigiKey

We take a look at the X-NUCLEO-53L9A1 expansion board from STMicroelectronics. It’s based on the VL53L9CX series integrated 3D direct time-of-flight lidar module with up to 54 by 42 zones, providing mapping, spatial awareness, and object detection for robotics and many other applications. Inside the box, you’ll find the X-NUCLEO-53L9A1 expansion board with the sensor module and Arduino UNO R3 connectors. In this demo, we’re going to plug the expansion board into a NUCLEO-H563ZI and display the sensor data on a PC. Plug the X-NUCLEO-53L9A1 into the NUCLEO-H563ZI, confirm the power select jumper is on STLK, check the jumpers and switches against the positions in the user guide, and connect the NUCLEO STLink USB-C to your computer. Open a file explorer and flash the firmware by dragging the bin file to the mass storage device created by the board. Unplug the USB cable, switch the power select jumper to USER USB, and plug the USB cable into the USER USB port. Open the Jarv3d software and the board should auto-detect the sensor. You can change the frame rate, resolution and other sensor parameters as well as display settings, then click START to begin streaming. You’ll see a 3D point cloud of the sensor’s view, with it able to detect from less than 50 millimeters to 8.8 meters in precision mode and the right conditions.
