The future of networking and connectivity is challenging and exciting. By 2021, it is expected a little less than 90% of enterprise gateways must support virtual services. The reasons for the world to turn to virtualization (and software defined networks) are: Increase service velocity, going from designing custom hardware and software to writing code that can be tested and run in a Virtual Machine, and Capex and Opex reduction going from having many diverse custom systems to fewer homogenous COTS systems. Finally, having more scalability and elasticity since the customer will be able to scale up and down the systems, add service nodes and instantiate more VMs by demand.
